What is perfect body pH?
One of the most important processes in your body is the process by which the pH balance is maintained. Body pH measures the number of hydrogen ions in solution within the body. The pH scale ranges from 0-14 with <6.4 acidic and >6.4 alkaline for body fluid, not including blood which is a normal 7.3 pH. An acidic pH has a low ability to attract hydrogen ions, while an alkaline solution has a high ability to attract hydrogen ions. "p" stands for potential and "H" stands for hydrogen; henceforth, the potential of the body to attract hydrogen ions to secure balance and health.

Why is balanced pH important?
Your body pH is something you must not ignore if you wish to maintain perfect health, regain lost immunity, or maintain proper weight. The farther away from perfect balance pH travels, the more serious health problems may develop and the more difficult it may be to maintain proper weight.
The body has a specific pH value. In fact, each of the body fluids has a specific pH value. The blood, for example, has a more alkaline pH balance averaging between 7.1 and 7.4. The saliva and urine are more acidic, averaging between 6.4 and 6.6.

Re: Toxic planet: The Female Brain
Here's the abstract and link to the Scott Belcher article mentioned in
the news item.

1: Endocrinology. 2005 Dec;146(12):5388-96. Epub 2005 Aug 25.

Ontogeny of rapid estrogen-mediated extracellular signal-regulated
kinase signaling in the rat cerebellar cortex: potent nongenomic agonist
and endocrine disrupting activity of the xenoestrogen bisphenol A.

Zsarnovszky A, Le HH, Wang HS, Belcher SM.
Department of Pharmacology and Cell Biophysics, University of Cincinnati
College of Medicine, Ohio 45267-0575, USA.

In addition to regulating estrogen receptor-dependent gene expression,
17beta-estradiol (E(2)) can directly influence intracellular signaling.
In primary cultured cerebellar neurons, E(2) was previously shown to
regulate growth and oncotic cell death via rapid stimulation of ERK1/2
signaling. Here we show that ERK1/2 signaling in the cerebellum of
neonatal and mature rats was rapidly responsive to E(2) and during
development to the environmental estrogen bisphenol A (BPA). In vivo
dose-response analysis for each estrogenic compound was performed by
brief (6-min) intracerebellar injection, followed by rapid fixation and
phosphorylation-state-specific immunohistochemistry to quantitatively
characterize changes in activated ERK1/2 (pERK) immunopositive cell
numbers. Beginning on postnatal d 8, E(2) significantly influenced the
number of pERK-positive cells in a cell-specific manner that was
dependent on concentration and age but not sex. In cerebellar granule
cells on postnatal d 10, E(2) or BPA increased pERK-positive cell
numbers at low doses (10(-12) to 10(-10) M) and at higher (10(-7) to
10(-6) M) concentrations. Intermediate concentrations of either
estrogenic compound did not modify basal ERK signaling. Rapid
E(2)-induced increases in pERK immunoreactivity were specific to the
ERK1/2 pathway as demonstrated by coinjection of the mitogen-activated,
ERK-activating kinase (MEK)1/2 inhibitor U0126. Coadministration of BPA
(10(-12) to 10(-10) M) with 10(-10) M E(2) dose-dependently inhibited
rapid E(2)-induced ERK1/2 activation in developing cerebellar neurons.
The ability of BPA to act as a highly potent E(2) mimetic and to also
disrupt the rapid actions of E(2) at very low concentrations during
cerebellar development highlights the potential low-dose impact of
xenoestrogens on the developing brain.

# CELEBRATE BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN 101 YR ANNIVERSARY !
THE BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN- SCREENING WEDNESDAY 14TH, 9PM, STATION 40
3030 16th St. @ Mission, accross from BART, SF

lets learn from the past and build towards the future!

"The Potemkin uprising was a 1905 mutiny of the crew of the Russian
battleship Potemkin against their officers, which was part of the Russian
Revolution of 1905. It later came to be viewed as an initial step towards
the Russian Revolution of 1917, and was the basis of the silent film
Battleship Potemkin".

"The Battleship Potemkin, is a 1925 silent film directed by Sergei
Eisenstein and produced by Mosfilm. It is a fictional narrative film meant
to glorify a real-life event that occurred in 1905, the Battleship
Potemkin uprising, when the crew of a Russian battleship rebelled against
their oppressive officers during the Tsarist regime. Potemkin has been
called one of the most influential films of all time, and it was named the
greatest film of all time at the World's Fair".

“To all civilized citizens and to the working people! The crimes of the
autocratic government have exhausted all patience. The whole of Russia,
burning with indignation, exclaims: Down with the chains of bondage! The
government wants to drown the country in blood, forgetting that the troops
consist of sons of the oppressed people. The crew of the Potemkin has
taken the first decisive step. We refuse to go on acting as the people’s
hangman. Our slogan is: freedom for the whole Russian people or death! We
demand an end to the war and the immediate convocation of a constituent
assembly on the basis of universal suffrage. That is the aim for which we
shall fight to the end: victory or death! All free men, all workers will
be on our side in the struggle for liberty and peace. Down with the
autocracy! Long live the constituent assembly!”

Lenin Collected Works, Progress Publishers, 1977, Moscow, Volume 41, pages
169.2-170.1.

A reference to the mutiny on the battleship Potemkin, which broke out on
June 14 (27), 1905. The ship entered Odessa, just then in the grip of a
general strike, but no use was made of the favorable conditions for joint
action by the workers and sailors. The Bolshevik organization in Odessa
had been weakened by arrests, and was not united. The Mensheviks were
opposed to an armed uprising and tried to restrain the workers and sailors
from offensive operations. The tsarist government sent the whole of its
Black Sea Fleet to crush the Potemkin mutiny, but the sailors refused to
fire at the insurgent ship, and their commanders were forced to withdraw
the fleet. After sailing the seas for eleven days, the Potemkin, short of
food and coal, made for Rumania and there surrendered to the Rumanian
authorities. Most of its sailors remained abroad. Those of them who
returned were arrested and committed for trial.

The Potemkin mutiny failed but the fact that the crew of a major warship
had gone over to the revolution was an important advance in the struggle
against the autocracy. Lenin said the uprising was an “attempt to form the
nucleus of a revolutionary army”

Thursday June 15th at 7:30 pm
at Books Inc. on Market St.
as Antonia Juhasz reads from her book “The Bush Agenda”

“The Bush Agenda” exposes the Bush Administration's radical economic agenda for global domination, a plan more extreme, unilateral and audacious than any of his predecessors, a plan that has created the greatest level of violent opposition to America and Americans in recent history. This book addresses the history of U.S. economic relations throughout the world over the past 25 years, the key role of U.S. corporations, and the larger Bush economic agenda and what the potential impact of this agenda will be on the United States and the world.

It concludes with specific alternatives to guide the U.S. on a more peaceful and sustainable course in the future. Using Naomi Klein's No Logo and Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation as models, The Bush Agenda is based on hard analytic fact and presented so that it will not only be persuasive, but highly engaging and entertaining to a broad audience.

This year, she has reduced her prices so her jewelry is even more affordable, and 100% of the sales go to our work to protect whales and dolphins and all ocean life.

We are very grateful to Marion Weber, owner of the lovely Healing Arts Center, for her longtime support of Seaflow and for forgoing any usual commission on the sales from this event.

In addition to Vivienne's jewelry, there are inspirational books, sacred objects, unusual cards and healing goodies at the Center.

A fun-filled afternoon! Please join us. (And don?t forget to bring your friends!)

 San Francisco Oil Awareness
Presents "( Is It ) The End of the World As We Know It?"
Bay Area Artists' Views of Peak Oil and Climate Change at

Art SF at 110 Capp Street, 5th Floor
 Saturday, June 17 from 7 to 10 P.M.

Scientists, environmentalists, financiers, world leaders, politicians and the U.N. have all spoken up and warned us to prepare for the advent of Peak Oil and Climate Change.

We've all seen the images of Katrina, the Indian Ocean, Europe's arctic winter, extreme floods and droughts on every continent and the flexings of powerful muscles over oil.

Now it is time for artists to step up to the plate. For centuries, the Art World has served not only as History's illustrator, but as society's conscience and a call to arms for its citizenry.

We are looking for serious/poignant/hopeful/tragic/personal/global views of the changes our planet and society shall be undergoing as the twin crises of peak oil and climate change overtake us.

While we are not necessarily looking for epic works of art (allowed, nevertheless), we do believe that these are two of the most serious issues facing humanity in the 21st Century. We are seeking the thoughtful works of Bay Area Artists that express this understanding.

The material in this show will be new to many and for some, a shock. It's tantamount to telling a child there is no Santa. We are not, however, looking for the merely sensational, but for informative, educational, emotional, and yes, humorous art. ( Not TOO black, please. We're talking about people's dreams and futures here.)

As many pieces as we have space for shall be included.

Gallery Bar, track lighting, sound system, wooden floor, tall window wall, large service elevator.

Set-up 7 - 10 P.M. Thursday, June 15 & Friday, June 16th. Ladder, Lights & Water available. Please provide your own fasteners and hammers, screwdrivers.

Publicity Art SF and San Francisco Oil Awareness have extensive mailing lists and shall be providing publicity throughout the Bay Area.

John Gibler, a Global Exchange human rights fellow in Mexico who has been covering the Zapatistas' Other Campaign since January 1st, will speak on the Other Campaign and present two short documentaries on the May 4th massive police raid in San Salvador Atenco. Gibler was present in Atenco and has since conducted scores of interviews with victims and witnesses. He collaborated with both documentaries which include direct film footage from Atenco as well as photographs, interviews, and archival footage. Each documentary is about 40 minutes long in Spanish with English subtitles. They show the incredible and systematic use of police brutality in Atenco, breaking the information blackhole enforced by major US media in their refusal to cover the violence or analyze its political nature.

July 2006

# July 2006 is the month to Bring the War Home to cities across the
nation with Direct Action and Civil Disobedience to shut down all metropolitan
areas. Then organizers from around the world will converge on DC August
10th through the 14th to confront the true war machine.

SHUT DOWN DC: August 10th through 14th, 2006. There will be massive
decentralized direct action against all government and corporate
entities.

The vast majority of government and corporate war profiteers are based
in DC, and its time they experience war first hand. Let's bring the war to
their homes, their offices, their parties and everywhere else they go.

As long as there is a war abroad, we must also have a war at home. With
the Iran war looming, the Iraq war lingering, and dozens of other wars
raging, it is long past time to bring the war home.

With thousands expected to descend on our fair city, mass housing, free
vegan food, and a convergence space will all be available. Mark your
calendars, tell your friends, plan to come to DC August 10th through
14th, 2006.

More information and details will be coming, and our website should be
up soon. Keep checking back for more details. In the meantime email

# July 15 - Day of Action against Climate Change and G8 - EF! Call to Action!
A call to action from Earth First! Climate Caucus and Rising Tide North America
July 15th 2006 -- Direct Action for Climate Justice

  International Day of Direct Action
against Climate Change and the G8
 Rise Up Against G8 Policies
Target Fossil Fuel Industries in Your Town or Bioregion

On July 15th, the "Group of 8" (G8) richest industrialized countries will gather in St. Petersburg, Russia to plot their continued commodification and domination of the planet, this time under the banner of "Energy Security." A leaked G8 "Communique on Energy Security" calls for trillions of dollars in new investments in oil, gas and coal production worldwide, plus wide-scale global expansion of nuclear energy. With runaway climate change* looming just over the horizon, such neoliberal business-as-usual poses a direct threat to the continuation of life on Earth as we know it. Resistance is self defense. The G8 agenda promotes petroleum-dependent "Energy Security" that pollutes our land and atmosphere, ravages poor and indigenous communities, and scorches the Earth's climate. Their recipe for disaster must be met with our global resistance!

July 15th will be an International Day of Action Against Climate Change. As G8 energy ministers promise trillions in new subsidies to the industries destroying our planet and our future, we will take action to shut them down! This is a call for autonomous, decentralized actions appropriate for your town, city, or bioregion. Use this international day of action to support local struggles against oil refineries, gas pipelines, strip mines and coal-fired power plants. Disrupt the financial backers of the fossil fuel industry. Host teach-ins to spread sustainable post-petroleum living skills. Find a weak point in the infrastructure of resource exploitation and throw a literal or symbolic wrench in the works. Visit your local polluters and give 'em hell!

The July 15th International Day of Action Against Climate Change is being mobilized by Rising Tide North America, a new network initiated in the US by the Earth First! Climate Caucus, with inspiration and support from the UK's vibrant Rising Tide direct action movement for climate justice and against climate change. Rising Tide North America is actively mobilizing July 15th actions in local bioregions, as well as reaching out to environmental justice, climate action and radical sustainability movements in all of the G8 countries plus the Global South.

Rising Tide North America is building a large collection of outreach and agit-prop materials that can be used by groups around the continent (and the world) to organize locally. These materials will be downloadable from http://www.reclaimthecommons.net and from the website of Rising Tide North America (comin' soon).

Join the Rising Tide North America network, and tell us about July 15th actions against climate change being planned in your community or bioregion! Contact us at efclimatecaucus@wildmail.com.

*19 of the 20 hottest years on record have occurred since 1980. Islands in the South Pacific are already evacuating due to rising sea levels. Storms and hurricanes are growing more severe. Polar bears are drowning as their icy habitat breaks apart and drifts out to sea. Greenland and Antarctica are melting. Everyday we spew more greenhouse gases burned from fossil fuels into the atmosphere; everyday we are one step closer to what scientists refer to as "the tipping point," on the verge of catastrophic and irreversible climate chaos.
